Bluff
Stirling Point is located at the beginning (or end) of New Zealand's State Highway 1, in the small township of Bluff. It is named after Captain William Stirling who established a Whaling Station nearby in 1836.
Stirling Point is most famous for its signpost, which depicts directions and distances to major cities around the world. This signpost has featured in thousands of travellers photographs and is a must-do for visitors to Southland.
The point is also the start of a number of scenic short walks on Bluff Hill peninsula that traverse a wide variety of vegetation, including native bush, coastal scrub and privately owned farmland.

Famous for its signpost, which depicts distances to major cities around the world, Stirling Point is located at the beginning of State Highway 1.
The trail consists of 17 sites around one of New Zealand's earliest settlements and features points of interest from the life of Sir Joseph Ward.
Following the coast, this fantastic walkway takes you to Lookout Point and further on to Ocean Beach, while also providing access to other tracks.
Walk through thick bush to the top the Bluff Hill (Motupohue) and back down the other side. A loop can be formed with part of the Foveaux Walkway.
This recreational area offers spectacular views over Southland and the southern coast, and numerous different walking and mountain biking tracks.
